Labelling itel S42 as a budget smartphone with great hardware is staid. And focusing on the phone’s Full screen selfie only is a catchphrase.I analyzed the phone from very convenient angles and the insights I pulled are real and rather reflective.
Performance of Apps
The list: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter.
The result: Switching between apps was smooth for the first 20 minutes and then I encountered a lag. Facebook app shut down prematurely and I had to restart.
Instagram’s camera feature did not open and the phone’s 13 MP camera offered pictures that require quite a lot of editing.
Pinch and Zoom did not work and during this time the phone warmed up in my hands.
Food Delivery & Discovery
The list: Uber eats, Swiggy, Zomato, Foodpanda, Freshmenu, Fasoos and Dineout.
The result: Switching between apps and multi-tasking was smooth but using the search option inside the apps took some effort. I ordered Penne Pasta and paid for it online without cart abandonment.
Banks & Fintech Apps
The list: SBI, ICICI Bank, Citibank, BHIM, PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge.
The result: Checking bank balance and initiating online transfers was easy with no lags.
The list: AltBalaji, Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar.
The result: Watching movies and TV shows in a 5.65-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio was great, however the battery drains fast and the mobile starts heating up.
The list: Uber and Ola.
The result: Booking a cab was easy with no problems.
The Big Screen & Camera
itel S42’s 5.65 inch screen is one of the attractions. The front camera flash and the rear camera flash makes capturing and freezing moments from the daily, a flair. Photos taken with the 13 MP camera needs a bit of polish before publishing and sharing. Low- Light shots struggle to capture the colors.
It’s polycarbonate body is sturdy but slippery and needs a back cover to protect it from damage. Comparison’s with its competitors in the similar category is inevitable.
Specs: Android 8.0 Oreo | 3,000mAh battery | 5.65-inch HD+ display | Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor | 13MP rear camera | 13MP front camera | 3GB RAM | 16GB internal memory | expandable memory up to 128GB | 4G LTE
Here is what I think of the S42
One of the few smartphones that offer Andriod 8.0 out of the box. User Interface looks tidy and navigation is seamless. Call quality over LTE is great. At Rs.8499, itel S42 is priced right.
